CHAW is at 545 7th Street SE at G Street, two blocks south of Eastern Market Metro. Street parking is limited and restrictions are enforced; paid parking is available along I Street and beneath the freeway. Check the official calendar and current hours before arrival.

Accessibility

CHAW states that its historic building is accessible only by stairs and has no elevator or ramp, so its studios, gallery, and theater are not wheelchair accessible. Contact the office before registering or attending to discuss access needs and possible alternatives.

About Capitol Hill Arts Workshop

Capitol Hill Arts Workshop is a community arts center founded in 1972 that offers visual and performing arts classes, youth programs, private lessons, exhibitions, performances, residencies, and rentable creative spaces in the historic former Benjamin Brown French School.

Closures

CHAW is closed Sundays and federal holidays; weather closures generally follow DC Public Schools.

Rentals

Rental requests must be submitted at least two weeks ahead and have a three-hour minimum.

Rental hours

City zoning prohibits rental events on Sundays or after 10 p.m.
